About the Book
South of Lisbon is an artist’s journey into Portugal in summer — its heat, dust, and light. Through paintings, drawings, photographs, and words, Patrick Fraser captures the essence of Lisbon, the wild coast just to the south, and the wide plains of the Alentejo.
The work moves between city streets and hilltop castles, between rough Atlantic waves and the still shade of cork oaks. It observes the people, the cafés, the fields, and the long shadows cast in the dry heat of August. The images and text together explore not just the landscape but the atmosphere — the way the land feels, the way it lingers in memory.
Part travel diary, part sketchbook, South of Lisbon is a portrait of Portugal seen through the eyes of a painter and photographer, a meditation on place, time, and light.
